Fellowships
From Tri-I Wiki
CBM students receive full fellowships from the program. Nevertheless, applying for external fellowships is encouraged, as receiving such an award will look good on ones' CV.
Below is a list of fellowships applicable to CBM students. WGSMC has a list of fellowships for graduate students at WCMC. The Cornell (Ithaca) graduate school also has information on fellowships, including a searchable database. Many of these are biased towards students early in their careers, so apply as early as you are comfortable.
When adding an entry, please be sure to include the deadline for submission, the target audience, and what unique qualifying criteria the funding agency is looking for. Please also include any eligibility requirements (e.g., "US citizen or permanent resident only").
NIH Kirschstein (NRSA) Fellowship (F31)
This grant is offered by the NIH for doctoral students in the biomedical sciences. Students submit a complete plan for their thesis research, the content of which must be closely aligned with one of the NIH's institutes (see link for a list). This is only done once the student has reached the "dissertation research stage of their training", which is likely late in the second year or the start of the third. The grant provides $20,000 for a stipend and up to $16,000 for tuition for up to 5 years.
